Eliminating foul odors has been a problem that dates back 3,000 years ago when Egyptians were burning incense in tombs. Covering a bad odor with a more powerful one is known as "masking" and, unfortunately, it's still the primary way many air deodorizers work today. Today there is a great deal more known about the sense of smell, with the foremost research in the world being done at leading universities close to our plant in the Philadelphia area. They have led us to a complex we call Airicide, that is much more than a "mask" and is part of every Airx formula. In over simplified terms, odors float in the air as molecules. When sniffed in, these molecules reach a dead end passage at the top of the nasal cavity containing thousands of hair-like antennas called cilia that receive these molecules and trigger impulses to the brain identifying the smell. Scientists now believe different cilia accept only molecules of specific size and shape, or as the experts say, accept only molecules of specific "geometries."
